All children and young people have the right to be protected and kept safe from the harm of others.
I have the responsibility as a childminder to help protect children and young people when they say they need help or if I witness behaviour that is of concern.
1. Normally, in the first instance, consult the responsible
Parent/Carer.
2. Describe to them what I witnessed or the behaviour that
was of concern.
3. Let the person know if there are other things they should
be aware of, for example, immediate risk for the child or
any other child.
4. If applicable, contact the relevant agency. This could be a teacher, a social worker, a police officer or any other child protection organization.
Where an urgent need necessitates me informing a relevant agency, information provided by me may have to be shared with other professionals to ensure appropriate action is taken to protect the child /young person.
